Sadie and I set out for a four night, 36 mile loop through the beautiful Lost Creek Wilderness of Pike National Forest. It had been six years since our last visit and we entered at a different trailhead. A mile into the hike from the trailhead, it thunderstorms and rained on us all the way up to our night one campsite where we reached the loop. Day two, the valley on the No rth end of the loop is spectacular and easy going. Sadie, now 11, began having some difficulties. As we reached night two campsite at 12.5 miles from the trailhead, my water purifier broke on me making it very difficult to filter water. On the morning of day three, I made the decision to double back rather than cross the high point of the trail at 12,200 feat. I found a wonderful camping spot at the east end and entry point into the open valley. It was picturesque and a fantastic back drop for a fire, the hammock and a peaceful evening until rain hit around dusk. The next day, I elected to just hike out and cut the trip short as rain was forecast for most of the remainder of the trip.
